Ethan had been working as anight security guardat the university for three months.
His job was simple—walk the empty hallways, check that all doors were locked, and make surenothing unusualwas happening.
Most nights were uneventful. But one night, he found somethingwrong.
He was making his usual rounds in theoldest building on campus, checking doors, when he noticeda light under a doorat the end of the hallway.
That was odd.
This building was supposed to beempty.
He pulled out hiskeyring, checking the room number.
Room 217.
But when he looked at theofficial floor planhanging in the hallway, there wasno Room 217.
The numbers jumped from216 to 218.
His stomachtightened.
Slowly, he stepped closer.
The doorlooked old—more worn than the others, with a brass handle thatfelt cold to the touch.
He knocked once.
Silence.
He knocked again.
Still nothing.
Finally, he took out hismaster key, slid it into the lock, and turned.
The doorswung open easily.
Inside was aclassroom.
But something waswrong.
Theblackboardwas covered infaded writing, notes scribbled in a language Ethan didn’t recognize. Thedeskswere old-fashioned, wooden, with namescarved into them. The air smelledstale, likea place long abandoned.
Then, he noticed something else.
There was acoat hanging on one of the chairs.
Afresh cup of coffeesat on a desk, steam still rising from it.
Someone had been here.Recently.
Ethan’s breathhitched.
Then—
The doorslammed shutbehind him.
The lightsflickered.
And from the blackboard, thechalk began moving on its own, scrawling out a message.
“You shouldn’t be here.”
Ethanboltedfor the door, yanking at the handle.
It wouldn’t budge.
The airgrew cold.
Then, he heard it.
Achair scrapingagainst the floor.
Someone else was in the room.
He turned slowly.
At the back of the room, one of thedesks was now occupied.
A student sat there, motionless.
Facepale.
Eyes staringstraight at him.
Then, the studentsmiled.
The lights went out.
And in the dark, Ethan heard awhisper.
“Class is about to begin.”
