英式英文與美式英文除了腔調上的不同，在許多慣用單字上也會有差異。不過小編還是要告訴大家，畢竟現在是一個十分國際化的社會，美式以及英式慣用語也有相互影響、交互使用的現象，因此並不是絕對呦！

1. 公寓美式：apartment英式：flat Living in an apartment with three girls couldn’t be easy.跟三個女生一起住在同一間公寓裡不是件簡單的事。It’s almost impossible to find a flat in Paris with a reasonable price.要在巴黎找到一間價錢不貴的公寓真的很難！

2. 餅乾美式：cookie英式：biscuitThe girl scouts are selling cookies on the street.女童軍們正在路邊賣餅乾。I want some biscuit to go with the afternon tea.我想要一些餅乾來搭配下午茶。

3. 學期美式：semester英式：termThe upcoming semester is definitely going to be a challenge for me.接下來的這個學期對我來說絕對是一大挑戰。John will be studying at Oxford University for two terms.John 會在牛津大學待兩個學期。

4. 宿舍美式：dormitory英式：hall of residence / hallYour dormitory is such a mess! Clean it up!你的宿舍超亂！快去整理！Do you live in hall or do you have your own flat?你住宿舍還是自己的公寓呢？

5. 足球美式：soccer英式：footballGenerally speaking, students in my high school like football more than soccer.普遍來說，我們高中的同學們喜歡美式橄欖球勝過足球。Did you watch the football game last night?你有沒有看昨天晚上那場足球賽？※補充：在美式英文中 “football” 指的是「美式橄欖球」，而 “soccer” 指我們一般認知上的「足球」；不過除了美國以外的地區，基本上都是用 football 來表示「足球」。

6. 電梯美式：elevator英式：liftInstead of taking the elevator, try the stairs!與其搭電梯，不如走樓梯吧！Alex went up to the second floor in the lift.Alex 搭電梯上了二樓。

7. 垃圾美式：garbage英式：rubbishWould you mind taking out the garbage for me?可以麻煩妳幫我把垃圾拿到外面嗎？Jordan threw his old trainers in the rubbish.Jordan 把他的運動鞋丟到垃圾堆裡。

8. 橡皮擦美式：eraser英式：rubberCan I borrow your eraser? Somehow mine kept disappearing!可以跟你借橡皮擦嗎？我的一直不見！I need a rubber to erase the mistake.我需要橡皮擦來更正這個錯誤。

9. 衣櫥美式：closet英式：wardrobeIt is a common myth for children to believe that a monster lives in their closet, which is also the inspiration behind the movie “Monsters, Inc.”.很多小朋友都認爲他們衣櫃裡有怪物，這個想法也就是「怪獸電力公司」的靈感來源。Her wardrobe contains a wide collection of designer clothes.她衣櫃裡有不少名牌服飾。

10. 糖果美式：candy英式：sweetMost kids go trick-or-treating on Halloween and come home with a huge bucket of candies.很多小朋友萬聖節時會挨家挨戶地要糖果，並帶回滿滿一桶戰利品。The sweet shop on the street corner carries the nostalgic scent of childhood.街角的糖果店滿載着難忘的兒時回憶。
